Mosaic classes in San Salvador

Experience the joys of glass art and explore your talents with Vitrales by Margarita Llort mosaic classes. Make your own pieces while learning an ancient art form whose traces have appeared in many different cultures across time.

The history of Mosaic

The word mosaic comes from the Latin mosaĭcum, which means muse. The oldest mosaics—of Mesopotamia—date from 3800 BC. The Greeks and Romans also cultivated this technique. The mosaics made by Egyptians were found in the best condition, and the reason is that they were made of glass. Its advantage over other materials lies in its quality and durability, guaranteeing brightness and color regardless of its thickness. It’s very uncommon to see wear or discoloration on glass.

Mosaic is made by joining together small pieces of different shapes and colors of stone, ceramic, glass, or other materials, which are glued together with cement or adhesives. You can create paintings or cover furniture and decorative items, as well as walls, floors, water fountains, etc. You can also develop large-scale works made of mosaic, as seen in urban constructions.

Participate in our annual student exhibition held in December and win prizes to help you continue working on this beautiful art form.
